You know, Canada Day Shopping is going to be a big event tommorrow, due to the decrease in GST and HST by the new Ministry (the new GST is 6% and the new HST is 14%). But this makes me wonder, why is THIS tax being reduced?
Basically, this tax seems like the least likely to be reduced due to the fact that the average Canadian will only save like $0.01 per dollar. I mean, sure, I can agree with lowering the Right of Permanent Residence Fee but why cut the tax that is going to affect people in the least?
Let's assume you are going to buy a brand new computer and it cost you like $1900. Now, you would only save like $19 on that computer because that's how much GST was cut.
I am not saying that I oppose the GST/HST tax cut but I am just saying that there are far more taxes and fees which should be cut or reduced (like the work permit fee).
And that's the whole toonie!
